Day 2 in Prague

We started today with an electric trike tour of Prague. It was an activity that Clare chose and she was brilliant at it! It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me that I was the remedial student who had to go behind the tour guide. I got the hang of it as the tour progressed. I am just a bit slower mastering new vehicles. It was a great way to see the city. We drove up to Letna Park where we could see an incredible view of the city. Our guide, Tippy, told us all about the massive Stalin statue that overlooked the city for many years. It was eventually blown up.

We also drove to Prague Castle and the Strahov Monastery. Tomorrow, we will go back and see inside both of these buildings. We also drove by the Franz Kafka Museum with the Proudy sculpture out the front.

On the tram home, eagle-eyed Ian spotted a sign that said: Gluten Free Bakery. We jumped off the tram and went to find it. To my great delight, the bakery was full of bread, sandwiches and cakes all GF. We sat down and had lunch there and will probably do the same tomorrow.

After lunch and a quick rest, Ian and I headed to the Museum of Communism while Clare had some quiet time in our apartment. It was really interesting following the story from 1948 through to the Prague Spring of 1968 and the Velvet Revolution of 1989. We talked about the fact that we had not really paid attention to the situation in Czechoslovakia during these years. We both felt like we should have known more about this history.

It was Clare's turn next and she chose the Illusion Art Museum. (Ian and I had a drink in an outdoor restaurant instead).

We are loving Prague and we feel like we have really gotten to know the city. We are experts in the public transport system and can get around easily. It is such an attractive city especially at this time of year.
