Our journey to the UK went to plan. We arrived in Manchester around 8.30 on Tuesday morning. Flying into Manchester rather than Heathrow was a good call. We sailed through immigration and were out of the airport less than 30 mins after landing. We are staying in a lovely apartment hotel in the Salford part of Manchester. We took our time to get ourselves organised. Our only tourist activity today was our usual first step in every city we visit: the hop on, hop off bus. It is always a great way to get an overview of a new city.
Manchester is a wild mix of the very old and the very new. It seems like a city that has learnt how to reinvent itself over and over again. It is a smaller city than I thought. There are 2.7 million people living here, but it is growing fast. Apparently, quite a few major companies (including the BBC) are moving their headquarters to Manchester so, everywhere you look, there is construction happening. Tomorrow, we will see some more of the city and go on a guided walking tour in the afternoon.

Enjoy Manchester
