Prague is amazing!

I am not sure if there could possibly be a more beautiful city than Prague. Street after street is magnificent. It is astonishing to me that all of this could have been hidden away from the world for 40 years.

This morning, we started out on the tourist trail. We did lots of the well known attractions such as Wenceslas Square and the Charles Bridge. We saw the most fantastic buskers performing at the entrance to the Charles Bridge. (video) as well as an audio-visual art installation celebrating Dvorak. (video)

As Ian had been to Prague once before, he led Clare and I into the Old Town. The streets were so beautiful, they looked like something out of a fairytale (video). When we walked into the Old Town Square, Clare and I were speechless. It is astonishing. We were just in time to see the Astronomical Clock strike 12. A big crowd gathers every hour to see the show that happens in the clock.

After that, we headed out of the square for a tour of the Clementinum Library and Tower. The Clementinum itself is a whole collection of buildings dating back to the 11th century. It is a huge complex. We only saw the Baroque Library and the Astronomical Tower. The Library has to be seen to be believed. It is like something created in CGI for the Lord of the Rings. You just can't believe that it is real. (video)  We also really enjoyed the view from the top of the Tower.

It was another 30 degree day in Prague and we were pretty tired and hot after the tour so we headed back to the Old Town Square and had a lovely, long lunch at an outdoor restaurant there. Check out the photos to see the size of the beer that Ian ordered.

We needed a break after all that fun so we headed home to get ready for WOW: Black Light Theatre. This was a Clare pick and it was very unusual and a lot of fun. The whole show is performed on a black stage with the performers and props all in fluorescent costumes. It was a great way to end a fantastic day in Prague (just don't ask Clare about the spiders!)
