Early start in Dublin this morning to catch the flight to Prague. Dublin Airport on a Monday morning is like Sydney Airport on a Monday morning x 100. Flights going everywhere, queues, angry Americans! After a little hiccup with our heavy bags, we were off and running.
As with all the other cities we have stayed in, we are staying in a great central location. It is going to be a great base to see Prague from. We were a little nervous about our accommodation because the price was considerably lower than other cities. It turns out that Prague is one of the cheaper cities in Europe because our apartment is really nice.
We are staying in Truhlarska in the Prague 1 district which is kind of in the northern part of the city. I love, love, love our building. I would love to find out about its history. Judging by the staircase, I think it must be a 1920s/1930s building. I just adore thinking about all the history that has gone through it. What was it like under Soviet occupation? What were the people here thinking as they saw tanks rolling through the streets in 1968?
So far, we have just had a brief look around our neighbourhood. If this is a taster of the rest of Prague, we are in for a treat. Lots and lots of cobblestones, colourful buildings some of which have religious paintings on the front. It is a wonderful mix of medieval architecture alongside severe concrete monsters from the Soviet era.
Today, it was 30 degrees in Prague and the same is forecast for tomorrow. We are all looking forward to getting out and seeing everything it has to offer.
